Influenza Update

The McDaniel College Wellness Center is working with the Maryland Vaccination Services to offer H1N1 vaccination clinics. The College expects the first allotment of the vaccine to arrive within the next few days. Following guidelines from the CDC and the Maryland State Health Department, the H1N1 vaccine will be offered first to our students. As vaccines continue to be available, faculty and staff will be notified about additional vaccination clinics.

The charge for the H1N1 vaccination will be $10 per person. Students will be able to place the vaccination fee on their college account.

The Carroll County Health Department has scheduled Mass Vaccination Clinics beginning November 7, 2009. Information on the status of Health Department clinics is available by calling the Carroll County Health Department Flu Hotline at 410-876-3003 or on their website at www.carrollhealthdepartment.dhmh.md.gov.

As a reminder, we encourage all members of the community to follow these preventative measures:

• Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth; germs spread this way.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

McDaniel College will continue to keep the campus community informed, and encourage its members to pay attention to official campus e-mails. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Wellness Center at 410-857-2243. For further information and updates on the H1N1 flu, visit the CDC web site at www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/ or call 800-CDC-INFO.

Thank you for helping to promote the health and safety of our campus community.
